Mobile Dog Grooming FAQs
for the Denver Metro

Everything you want to know before booking your first appointment.

Booking a mobile dog groomer for the first time naturally comes with a lot of questions - and you should ask them. Below are the questions we hear most often from pet parents across the Denver metro, covering pricing, service area, vaccinations, payment, what happens at the appointment, and how we handle puppies, seniors, and anxious dogs. If you don't see your question here, give us a call; we'd rather talk it through than leave you guessing.

Mobile Service Basics

Do you come to my house for grooming?

Yes - Fur Sure Grooming is a fully mobile dog grooming service. We bring our self-contained grooming van directly to your home or apartment, and the entire groom takes place inside the van parked in your driveway, on the street, or in your alley. You don't drive anywhere, your dog doesn't sit in a kennel, and the whole experience happens at your address. We currently serve Denver, Westminster, Arvada, Thornton, Broomfield, Northglenn, Longmont, Boulder, Wheat Ridge, and surrounding North Denver Metro neighborhoods.

How does Fur Sure's mobile grooming service work?

After you book online, we confirm your appointment by text and arrive within your scheduled window. When we pull up, our groomer comes to your door, does a quick consult about your dog's coat, any health concerns, and the look you want, then walks your dog out to the van. The groom - bath, blow-dry, brush-out, haircut if needed, nails, ears, and a teeth wipe - happens one-on-one with no other dogs around. Most appointments take 1 to 2.5 hours depending on size and coat. When we're done, we text you, walk your pup back inside, and recap how the appointment went and what to schedule for next time. No call-out fees, no salon waiting room, no day-long stays.

What kind of support and communication do you offer between appointments?

You'll always have direct access to your groomer by text or phone. We confirm appointments the day before via text, send a heads-up when we're on the way, and follow up afterward if there's anything worth flagging about your dog's coat, skin, or upcoming visits. Scheduling is flexible - we'll work around your calendar and your dog's comfort preferences. For recurring clients, we lock in your preferred time slot so you're not competing for spots later.

How long does a grooming appointment take?

Most full-service appointments take 1 to 2.5 hours. A small, short-haired dog getting a basic bath might be done in about an hour; a heavy-shedding double-coated breed like a Husky or Golden Retriever, or a doodle getting a full haircut, can run closer to 2.5 hours because the blow-dry, brush-out, and scissor work is where the real time goes. A standalone nail trim & paw care visit is much faster - usually 15 to 30 minutes. We never rush, because a calm pace is part of why dogs leave our van happier than they would a traditional salon.

Can I watch while you groom my dog?

Unfortunately no. We love our regulars and we'd genuinely enjoy showing you the van, but for your dog's safety and our insurance requirements we can't have clients in the grooming area during the appointment. Many dogs also behave better when their humans aren't visible - they focus on the groomer, settle faster, and the whole appointment runs more calmly. We'll always send a recap and any photos when we're done.

Do you take photos of my dog during grooming?

Sometimes, yes. By booking with us you authorize Fur Sure Grooming to take and use photos and short videos of your dog for our records, social media, and marketing. If you'd rather we not photograph your dog, just let us know and we'll skip it - no problem at all.

What do I need to do before my appointment?

Almost nothing - that's the whole point of mobile. Just have:

  • A safe parking spot for the van (driveway, street, or alley) close enough that we can walk your dog over.
  • Your dog ready to go - leashed or easily leashable - at your appointment time.
  • Other pets secured in a separate room so the handoff is calm.
  • Vaccination records sent in advance if you haven't already.
  • A heads-up about anything we should know - recent surgery, skin issues, behavior concerns, sensitive spots, or vet notes.

You don't need to bathe your dog beforehand and you don't need to stay outside while we work - we'll text you when we're wrapping up.

Where will the van park, and do you need water or power from my house?

Anywhere safe and legal close to your front door - your driveway is ideal, but the street or alley works too as long as we can park without blocking traffic. The van is roughly the size of a delivery truck, so we need clearance to swing the side door open. And no, we don't need anything from your home: the van is fully self-contained with onboard fresh, heated water and its own power, so we can groom at houses, condos, apartments, and high-rises with no outdoor hose or outlet.

Pricing, Add-ons & Booking

How much does mobile dog grooming cost?

Pricing depends on your dog's breed, size, coat type, and condition. Our packages currently start at $55 for a Nail Trim & Paw Care visit, $97 for a Bath & Brush package, and $160 for a Full Groom & Haircut package. Heavily matted, double-coated, large, or extra-fluffy dogs may need more time and a higher quote, which we always confirm before we start. Add-on upgrades like the Fur-nado deShed treatment, premium shampoos, and sanitary trims are quoted separately. The fastest way to get an exact price for your dog is to start a booking - you'll see the personalized quote before you confirm.

What factors affect the price of a grooming session?

The biggest factors are coat type (single vs. double coat), coat length and condition (clean and brushed vs. matted), breed and size, and whether you're booking a bath, full haircut, or just a nail trim. A well-maintained Cocker Spaniel on a regular six-week haircut schedule will be on the lower end; a heavily matted doodle that hasn't been groomed in months and needs a careful demat or full shave-down will be on the higher end because it takes longer and requires more skill. Add-ons like de-shedding, premium shampoos, or sanitary trims add to the base price. Sticking to a regular grooming schedule is the easiest way to keep your cost predictable.

Do you charge extra fees for coming to my home?

No - we do not charge call-out, travel, or service-area fees within our normal Denver Metro service zone. The price you're quoted at booking is the price you pay. The only time the final price would change is if we discover something at the appointment that the booking didn't capture (severe matting that needs extra time, a flea bath, special handling for an anxious dog, etc.), and in those cases we always discuss it with you before adding anything.

What add-on services do you offer?

The most popular add-ons are:

  • Fur-nado deShed - a deep de-shedding service for heavy shedders and double-coated breeds, with shed-reducing shampoo, deep brush-out, and high-velocity blow-out.
  • Premium Shampoo upgrades - moisturizing, oatmeal, hypoallergenic, skin remedy, odor control, and seasonal scents.
  • Sanitary Trim - a mini groom for paws, face, and sanitary areas you can add to a bath.

You can also request light extras like a face trim, paw-pad shave, or specialty styling during your booking. Add-ons are quoted separately from the base package.

How often should my dog be groomed?

Dogs should be regularly groomed to stay healthy and reduce maintenance costs. As a general guide:

  • Long-haired or double-coated breeds: every 4 to 6 weeks
  • Short-haired or smooth coats: every 6 to 8 weeks
  • Puppies: every 2 to 3 weeks (short, positive sessions to build comfort)
  • Nail trims: every 3 to 4 weeks for most dogs

We recommend booking your next appointment before we leave so you don't have to compete for slots later.

Do you offer recurring appointments?

Yes. Recurring appointments are the best way to lock in a consistent time slot, and dogs on a regular schedule tend to be easier to groom (less matting, less anxiety), healthier overall, and more affordable to maintain in the long run since regular trims prevent the bigger, longer sessions that come from waiting too long between visits. We offer 4-week, 6-week, and 8-week recurring slots - most dogs land somewhere in that range depending on coat type. If you need a different schedule, just let your groomer know and we'll adjust.

To set up a recurring appointment, contact us anytime or just ask your groomer at the end of your next visit - we'll get it on the books before they leave.

What payment methods do you accept?

We accept cash, check, or credit card, and payment is due at the time of service. Returned checks are subject to a $35 fee. We'll provide a receipt for every appointment by request.

Do my dogs need to be vaccinated?

Yes. Colorado state law requires Rabies, Distemper, and Parvo vaccinations to be current, and we need a valid expiration date on file before we can groom. To reduce stress on your dog, please leave at least 48 hours between any vaccination and a grooming appointment - fresh vaccines can leave dogs sore or sluggish, and grooming on top of that is uncomfortable for them. If your dog has been exposed to a contagious illness like kennel cough or Parvo, please tell us in advance - we may need to reschedule to protect the other dogs we groom.

What is your weather and cancellation policy?

We do our best to stay open in all weather, but for severe winter storms we follow Birch Elementary School's inclement weather closures - if Birch closes, we contact affected appointments to reschedule. If you're unsure on a snowy morning, please call or text and we'll confirm. For non-weather cancellations or reschedules, we ask for at least 48 hours' notice to avoid the full appointment fee. Late arrivals beyond 15 minutes may result in a partial groom or a no-show fee. We make exceptions for genuine emergencies - just communicate with us as early as possible. Full details are in our service policy.

Your Dog: Coat, Breed & Behavior

Do you groom puppies, senior dogs, or anxious dogs?

Yes - and the mobile setup is often the best choice for them. There are no other dogs, no crowded kennels, no all-day waits, and no loud salon dryers. For puppies getting their first groom, we go slow and treat the appointment like a positive introduction so they build a good association with grooming early. For senior dogs we're gentle with the table, take breaks, and skip anything that puts strain on aging joints. For anxious or reactive dogs we use low-stress handling, quieter dryers, and frequent breaks - and if a dog tells us they need to stop, we stop. Please tell us about your dog's age, mobility, and temperament when you book so we can pace the appointment.

Do you groom double-coated breeds like Huskies, German Shepherds, and Golden Retrievers?

Absolutely - double-coated breeds are some of our favorite dogs to groom, and they benefit enormously from professional de-shedding. We do not shave double-coated breeds; the undercoat is what regulates body temperature and protects the skin in both summer heat and winter cold, and shaving it can permanently damage the coat. Instead we recommend our Fur-nado deShed add-on, which uses a shed-reducing shampoo and conditioner plus a deep brush-out and high-velocity blow-out to release loose undercoat and dramatically reduce shedding around your home. If you have a Husky, you can also read our full Husky Grooming Guide for breed-specific advice.

Do you groom large dogs?

Yes, with a current weight cap of about 75 lb. Our van setup, hydraulic table, and bathing tub are sized for small, medium, and standard-large breeds. We occasionally take dogs over 75 lb on a case-by-case basis depending on temperament and coat condition - please reach out before booking and we'll let you know. We're actively planning equipment upgrades to accommodate larger breeds, so the cap may change in the future.

What grooming products do you use?

We use professional-grade, pet-safe shampoos and conditioners that are free of harsh detergents. Our standard wash is gentle and suitable for most dogs, and we also stock premium upgrades - moisturizing, oatmeal, hypoallergenic, skin-soothing, odor-control, and aromatherapy formulas - which you can add at booking or request at the appointment. The van runs on its own warm, fresh water supply for a comfortable bath, and our dryers, brushes, clippers, and shears are all professional-grade. Note: we do not currently offer hand stripping.

What is your policy on matted coats?

Each grooming package includes about 15 minutes of brush-out as part of the base price. If your dog needs significant de-matting beyond that, we'll discuss the options and the additional fee with you before we start. Severely matted coats - especially mats packed close to the skin - are painful for the dog to brush out and can hide skin infections, sores, or parasites. In those cases, the most humane option is a short shave-down, which we'll only do with your consent. We won't pull a tight mat for the sake of preserving length when it's hurting the dog. Matting can also conceal pre-existing conditions that only become visible once the coat is removed; Fur Sure Grooming isn't responsible for those conditions, but we'll always let you know what we find. See our full grooming policy for details.

What happens if you find fleas or skin issues during grooming?

If we discover fleas or parasites during the appointment, we'll need to do a flea bath to protect the next dog who comes in our van - there's an additional flea shampoo fee for this, and we'll attempt to reach you before adding it. If we can't reach you and fleas are confirmed, the flea bath happens automatically; if you decline a flea bath, we have to stop the groom and send your dog home. For severe infestations or signs of contagious skin conditions like ringworm, we may also need to charge a salon sanitation fee and may ask you to get veterinary clearance before we groom again.

What happens if my dog can't be safely groomed?

Your dog's safety and our groomer's safety always come first. If a dog is too stressed, fearful, or reactive to safely continue, we stop the groom and bring them back to you. We'll do as much as we can - sometimes that's a partial bath or a shorter trim that still leaves your dog more comfortable than they were when we arrived - and we'll only charge you for the work we completed plus any handling time. We'll also talk through what to try next time: a shorter visit to build trust, a calming aid from your vet, or breaking grooming into smaller sessions.
